Weekly Roundup - October 8, 2016...I'm Back
Happy Weekend! Check out what's been going on in my world and some of the best articles from around the blogosphere. |
It was a bachelor weekend for me to head up to D.C. for a buddy of mine's wedding. I hadn't been up to the area in 7-8 years so it was great getting to go and even better to get to do a last solo trip before officially becoming a full-time SAHD. Which by the way went well this past week with few tears by my daughter and myself.
D.C. was awesome although I have to admit it was a long and tiring trip and I was glad to head back home last Sunday. It's crazy how having a child changes your perspective on things. I wasn't even gone for 3 full days but come Sunday I was ready to just teleport back home. I've added some pictures from my trip and the whole reason to come home further down in the post.
There's not much in the markets that I feel is an overwhelming value purchase right now so I've been a bit more active in the options market. By selling puts you can generate a "premium" yield or purchase shares at a discount. That sounds like a good situation to me, especially in the current market environment.
I opened up 2 more positions this week and closed another position to lock in a gain. The first put option was on Altria and I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out. The second one was opened up on Friday so you'll have to wait until tomorrow or Monday to get the full details.
I'm probably a bit tapped out right now for options unless there's an overwhelmingly good opportunity that pops up. I have to admit that I'm a bit saddened by that since it's been great getting back involved in the options market even though I'm having to be a bit more conservative than I'd like due to limited funds.
Oh yeah, I also added to my Nike (Analysis Here) and V.F. Corporation positions in my Loyal3 portfolio with accumulated dividends. You've got to love no commission purchases!

The wedding was held at TPC Potomac. I'd love to go make some divots on that course. |

ReplyDeleteThanks for the mention, as always! Great reads up there, keep it going!

Lanny,
DeleteNo problem. There's always so much great content being put out week after week.
Thanks for stopping by!
Absolutely adorable little baby!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
MG
MG,
DeleteI agree! Although I might be a bit biased!
Thank you for the DivHut mention. Much appreciated. Nice photos too by the way. I haven’t been to D.C. in about 30 years. I imagine it’s changed a lot since my last visit. As a SAHD to another I can understand the excitement of doing a solo trip. Great round up and nice to see you adding some VFC to your L3 account. That name is getting quite attractive as of late.
ReplyDeleteDH,
DeleteI hadn't been to DC since about 2008/09 so it was good to go back up there and check things out. I love getting to check out some of the cities in the NE. Love going up there and visiting. If somehow we become millionaires via some unknown rich uncle I'd love to have a place up there or do some extended stays. The city was great and it's so different compared to life down here in Houston although I love being in Texas too.
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for adding me to your list of links. I've never been to DC. I really want to go. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteIH,
DeleteDC is great and it's so much easier to get around than it is down here in Houston. Plus there's so much history up there. I'd love to do an extended stay up there to really dig into some of the museums and other things up there, but sadly that'll have to wait.
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the mention sir!
ReplyDeleteI love DC. When we went to take a pic in front of the FED, we were the only people doing so ( and there was noone else to take a pic for us either). I guess it is not a popular tourist destination for whatever reason, lol. I am curious, did you meet any DC bloggers while there?
DGI
DGI,
DeleteI meant to add my pic of the Fed but completely forgot. I'm sure I got some strange looks from the various security personnel there because I imagine they don't have too many visitors although arguably it's one of the most important institutions in the city. I wanted to meet up with some other bloggers but I honestly didn't have that much time. One day.
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the mention, JC. Good to hear that you had a great time in DC and thanks for sharing the pics. Ive been to DC once and liked it -- wouldnt mind visiting again.

R2R,
